Klemperer, Otto
(14 may. 1885, Breslau, Alemania–6 jul. 1973, Zürich, Suiza).

Director de orquesta alemán. Después de estudiar composición con Hans Pfitzner (n. 1869–m. 1949), en 1905 conoció a Gustav Mahler, quien lo recomendó para varios cargos, entre ellos, el de director principal de la ópera de Hamburgo (1910). En la efímera Kroll Opera (1927–31), dirigió los estrenos berlineses de muchas obras importantes de compositores contemporáneos. En 1933 escapó de Alemania hacia EE.UU., donde dirigió en Los Ángeles (1933–39) y estudió con Arnold Schönberg. En 1939, un tumor cerebral lo dejó paralizado parcialmente. Desde la década de 1950, aunque debía sentarse sobre el podio, generó un legado de grabaciones admirables con la Orquesta Filarmónica de Londres.
